A canvas tipi that had collected tears across the cover from seasons of use and weather. Each tear was patched with color-matched canvas and reinforced with heavy-duty stitching, restoring the tipi to weather-tight, fully usable condition. Years of life left in it — no reason to replace a sound tipi over fixable damage.
With a tipi that has multiple tears, the job is methodical — work the cover section by section, find every tear including the small ones that haven't fully opened up yet, and patch them all so nothing gets missed. I cut color-matched canvas patches sized to fully cover each tear with overlap and stitched them down on an industrial walking-foot machine with UV-resistant thread. Catching the small tears now keeps them from becoming big ones next season.
The volume of tears was the real work — a tipi is a large cover and going over the whole thing carefully to catch every damaged spot takes patience. As with any aged canvas, fresh patches start out slightly lighter than the weathered original and blend in over a season of sun.
